ISSUES OF REGIONAL INFECTIOUS SERVICE REORGANIZATION

Objective. The purpose of the study was assessing of the effectiveness of functioning of inpatient and out-patient care for patients with infectious pathology in Grodno region and justifying of the infectious disease service reorganization.

Materials and methods. The annual reports of the infection service and the official data on the infectious diseases rate in Grodno region were analyzed.

Results. Over the past 10 years, against a significant decrease in infectious morbidity, the bed capacity of the infectious profile in the Grodno region has decreased by 18%. The hospital beds in the Grodno Regional Infectious Disease Hospital (GOICB) have been used more intensively: the bed occupancy has increased by 12%, the turnover — by 26.9%, the average inpatient stay — by 16.6%. In a number of central district hospitals (CRH), a significant number of infectious beds have been used to treat non-core patients and to manage patients for infectious pathologies their course being not severe. In the absence of a completed infectious disease doctor rate, there are problems in registering infectious diseases and providing medical assistance. There is a low patients appeal with acute infectious pathologies to infection clinicians in urban polyclinics the number of outpatient visits to GOICB increasing.

Conclusion. Expanding of the inter-district offices network, improving of their laboratory facilities, investing GOICB the status of a multidisciplinary center for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of infectious diseases, and reviewing of the functional duties of infectious disease clinicians in polyclinics should become the basis for the infectious disease service reorganization at the present stage.
