This report is dictated by the need to streamline the clinical classification of hypertensive disorders during pregnancy. Lack of its stability creates additional difficulties for the timely diagnosis and treatment of this very serious and often occurring complication of pregnancy. Basing on the literature data and many years of author’s own experience as an obstetrician-gynecologist such complications of pregnancy as preeclampsia (PE) and eclampsia threatening the mother’s and the child’s health are analyzed. Possibilities for a better perception of the existing terminology and classification of gestosis are indicated. Special attention is paid to improving the hypertensive disorders classification in pregnancy. The hypertension role in the PE and other severe complications occurrence in other organs and systems of the female body are specified. A more adequate understanding of the existing controversial issues will contribute to the development of optimal conditions for improving the obstetric care quality in this pathology.
