DYNAMICS AND STRUCTURE OF SYPHILIS INCIDENCE IN THE REPUBLIC OF BELARUS

Objective. To present and discuss the dynamics and structure of the syphilis incidence in the Republic of Belarus in 2008—2017.

Materials and methods. The annual final reports of dermatovenereologic institutions of the Republic of Belarus on the incidence of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) for 2008—2017 were analyzed. The incidence of newly diagnosed acquired syphilis was estimated taking into account the clinical forms of the disease, the patients sex and the age, the annual proportion of the manifest forms, early latent syphilis, and late latent syphilis.

Results. In 2008—2017 a more than three times general decrease of the incidence was observed in the Republic of Belarus. The last 10 years the part of the infection manifest forms decreased significantly whereas the early and late latent syphilis incidence increased. The ratio of men and women among the registered syphilitic patients all these years had the same tendency — men prevailed — 1.14:1.00. The late congenital syphilis had not been registered in Belarus for more than 20 years, the early congenital syphilis — since 2011. Possible causes of the latent and late forms of syphilis incidence growth in the overall structure are being discussed.
