MENTAL DISORDERS IN A CHILD WITH EPSTEIN — BARR VIRUS-ASSOCIATED ENCEPHALITIS

Viral encephalitis with limbic system involvement associated with herpes viruses is one of the rare forms of pathology in childhood in when affective and behavioral disorders, memory impairment, praxis, and other cognitive functions are the leading symptoms on the background of the partial and/or generalized seizures development. The clinical observation of encephalitis caused by the Epstein—Barr virus in a 13-year-old girl with the disease manifested by psychopathological disorders, partial and secondary generalized seizures the results of brain MRT being absent is discussed. The clinical observation presented shows that children’s neurologists, infectious disease specialists, and psychiatrists should be alert in respect of the problem because of the difficulties in the differential diagnosis.
