Objective. Evaluate the relationships between the psychopathological symptoms and hormonal status of women with first-episode psychosis in the schizophrenia spectrum disorders.
Materials and methods. 55 patients with the first-episode psychosis and 43 healthy women aged 18—35 years were included in the study. The psychopathological symptoms severity was evaluated using the SAPS and SANS clinical scales. The quantitative evaluation of the prolactin, estradiol, and progesterone serum concentrations was performed by the immunoassay.
Results. Certain changes in the hormonal status of patients with the first-episode psychosis such as hyperprolactinaemia, a decreased level of progesterone in the luteal phase, and the estradiol concentration low variability during the menstrual cycle various phases were identified. In our study, we had not found significant associations between the progesterone and estradiol levels and the positive and negative symptoms severity. A positive association between the severity of positive symptoms and the prolactin concentration in the examined patients was revealed.
