Objective. Evaluation of the long-term results of using buccal mucosa graft urethroplasty for urethral strictures in men.
Materials and methods. The data of 40 patients (average age 50) underwent buccal mucosa graft urethroplasty in the period from 2010 to 2018 were analyzed.
Results. The primary strictures were diagnosed in eight (20%) persons, the recurrent strictures — in 32 (80%) patients. The average number of the previous operations for urethral stricture was 2.2 [1; 8]. The main etiology was trauma — in 11 (27.5%) subjects. The strictures localized more frequently in the penis and bulbar urethra. The number of single strictures was 31 (77.5%), of multifocal — nine (22.5%). The average stricture length was 4.9 [1; 12] cm. In the long term, 23 (57.5%) patients didn’t need a further treatment. In 13 (32%) cases of recurrences, visual internal urethrotomy, the scar tissue TURs, and visual urethral dilations were performed. The median time to recurrence was 6.45 months.
Conclusion. The main factors influencing the recurrence development were the patients age (P=0.005) and presence of multifocal strictures (P=0.014). To improve the surgical treatment future, a strict preoperative assessment of the risk factors and postoperative monitoring of patients were required.
