The circumstances of the choice of the medical profession discussed in the article by prof. Yu. K. Abaev “A good doctor. Part 1. Vocation and training “ are analyzed. Some personal peculiarities of people choosing medicine as a profession, especially in psychiatry and psychotherapy have been considered. The features of the “doctor-patient” relationship are described in the system for providing assistance to dependent patients, also caused by untreated personality issues of the doctor himself. Some changes occurring over time in the somatic and psychological state of specialists working of health care are indicated. It is outlined that these psychological and somatic problems can’t be associated with burn-out syndrome. The fact of expanding commercialization of drug treatment assistance and the introduction of specialists driven exclusively by mercantile interests into this market was noted. Potential selection of candidates for the acquisition of the medical profession is mentioned.
