Epilepsy as a disease has never been just a medical problem; its social significance is well known. People with epilepsy still carry the burden of social stigma (stigma is a ‘label’, a ‘stigma’). The prejudice and discrimination/rejection of people with epilepsy by society goes back centuries.
Study was to reconstruct the history of epilepsy research from antiquity to the XX century in relation to the formation of public opinion and the stigmatization of people with epilepsy.
