EVALUATION OF THE EFFECTIVENESS OF COMPREHENSIVE CONSERVATIVE TREATMENT OF PATIENTS WITH MILD ENDOCRINE OPHTHALMOPATHY

Objective. To develop a method of early conservative treatment of patients with endocrine ophthalmopathy (EOP) and evaluate its effectiveness.

Materials and methods. The study included 65 patients (130 orbits) with clinical signs of EOP of mild severity of the disease. Depending on the treatment regimen, patients were divided into group A (comparison) and group B (main). Group A included 30 patients (60 orbits) who received a standard combination of thyrostatic and L-thyroxine. Group B consisted of 35 patients (70 orbits) who were prescribed a combination of thyrostatic and L-thyroxine and developed additional treatment regimen: selenium 100 mgq 2 times a day for 6 months; pentoxifylline at

a dose of 600 mg 2 times a day for 6 months; low-frequency pulsed magnetic field generated by the “UniSPOK” apparatus, lasting for 10-20 minutes, for a course of treatment up to 8-12 procedures carried out daily.

Results. The application of the developed method of treatment accelerated reduction of the EOP symptoms in comparison with standard therapy. The perceptible effect of the treatment in group B occurred within 6 months from the start, and the disappearance of symptoms occurred faster in group B compared with group A

Conclusion. The developed method of complex treatment of EOP, which included standard therapy of thyroid dysfunction in combination with selenium, pentoxifylline and magnetotherapy, showed its effectiveness in a mild degree of EOP, which resulted in the reduction of the ophthalmopathy manifestations severity.
