The article is dedicated to the death medicalization, an important aspect of the socio-cultural leadership of medicine in the society. The evolution of the attitude to death as well as the doctor’s attitude to a terminal case has been observed for the XIX–XXI centuries. The phenomenon of the death medicalization in the epoch of high medical technologies has been analyzed. The problem of the death stating and its equality to the brain death is enlightened. The artificial clinical and physiological states of a terminal patient provided by the death medicalization such as the terminal state, stable vegetative state, brain death are considered. The concepts “clinical death” and “biological death” are assessed critically. Attention is paid to the ethical aspects of medical activities under conditions of death medicalization.
